Besides the fact that S and H are my initials i realized that it indirectly describes the two art styles I center myself on. Oil painting takes time; it requires a thought out plan, as well as a general understanding of colors, light, and perspective. Even after it's finished, patience is required, as drying can sometimes take years. Knowledge of the techniques have passed down through many generations, such that I find it an endlessly fascinating medium. Over the past year of focusing on oil, I have found endless facets to explore.
Monotype, on the other hand, clears the mind. It doesn’t require overthinking the subject matter. Things simply emerge, and it’s up to the viewer to find meaning in them—or not. It’s uncomplicated, exciting, and a bit hasty.
