feel free to reach out anytime with your ideas and wishes for a custom oil painting.

a few things to keep in mind beforehand ...

size
Since I don’t have my own studio, your painting should ideally stay under 1.5 meters in width and/or height.
Timeline & Drying
As soon as you give me the go-ahead - and provided I’m not already working on another project - I’ll get started right away. Since I’m not working as a full-time artist at the moment and will soon be welcoming my little daughter, I’m currently planning for about one extra month of creation time.

Depending on the size of your artwork, you can expect it to take around 4 to 10 months to finish. Keep in mind that oil paintings have their own drying rhythm: while the surface is touch-dry after a few weeks, it can take up to a year (depending on paint thickness, conditions, etc.) until it’s completely dry. An intermediate varnish can be applied about 4 - 6 months after completion. If you’d like your painting right after it’s finished, without varnish, we just need to wait until it’s at least touch-dry. A final varnish is always recommended once it’s fully cured.
style
When thinking about your painting, please take inspiration from the style of my existing works. I’m happy to include your color preferences, and brushstrokes can be a bit looser or more defined -but overall, my work leans more toward realism than modern art.
reference image
Most of the time, you’ll already have a photo or image you’d like me to use as a reference. To keep the painting from looking like an exact copy, I usually allow myself a bit of artistic freedom (always after checking in with you), for example with composition or lighting. Oil paints really shine with good contrasts of light and shadow, and harmony in the overall setup is important. Not every subject works well as an oil painting, and it’s best if your reference is high-resolution (or at least very clear).
I’m always happy to chat things through with you before starting.
pricing
The cost of your painting depends a lot on size and level of detail. You’ll of course receive a no-strings-attached quote upfront.
monotype
At the moment, I don’t offer commissioned monotypes. The motifs tend to emerge in the process and are tricky to plan on demand.
